Patriots maintain unbeaten run . . . despite trailing 5-1

AT 5-1 down, Porters Patriots were staring their first defeat in the face. But all credit to a side that had previously gone 28 matches undefeated in the Porters Function Room 501 Top 20 League, who turned it around to preserve their unblemished record.

Fawn B secured all but one of the 11 points that were on offer against Duchy of Cornwall and the hosts had Jodie Hawton to thank for saving them the whitewash.

Fred Goldsmith put in a top performance for the winners and in winning 3-0, aided by two maximum scores, recorded his best leg in 12 darts.

Neil Reid top scored with 12 throws of a ton or more which included a brace of 180s, as Torpoint Cons edged out Fawn A 6-5, while Brookside defeated Porters Pretenders 8-3 with Scott Lawrey and Scott Wapshott equally sharing four maximums.

Octagon Social Club had to settle for a win by the narrowest of margins away at Falstaff, despite leading 4-1, in a well contested fixture that produced 109 throws of a ton or more.

City Social were another side to win in double figures and restricted Waterloo to a single point with some outstanding individual performances.

Glyn Wells (27.33) won 3-0 in 15, 19 and 21 and Maria O’Brien (27.83) followed in 15, 18 and 21 while 15-year-old Jordan Grimshaw (pictured left) also emerged a 3-0 winner, aided by a leg in 14.

Lewis Dare was prominent for the Southway side and emerged a 3-2 singles winner with his best leg being taken in 14.

Kings Arms defeated Compton Social Club 7-4 and were further buoyed when they had James Hughes’ checkout of 132 as the week’s best.
