Octagon still chasing runners-up in 501 Top 20 League
OCTAGON Social Club are not giving up in their quest for runners-up of the Porters Function Room 501 Top 20 League and kept themselves in contention with an 11-0 win against Waterloo Inn.
Alfie Ford secured a leg in 14 before going on to take his singles in three straight legs and Octagon are now within 11 points of the second placed berth with the advantage of a match in hand.
Unbeaten leaders Porters Patriots won 10-1 away at City Social in a match that produced six maximums, two each for John Mann (pictured below) and Andrew Nation.
Mann also caught the eye when emerging a 3-2 singles winner in 14, 12 and 19 while Andy Bates (100x16) top scored.
Second placed Brookside were taken the full distance away at Maritime Musketeers but won by the narrowest of margins. Gary Phillips (100x15) was prominent for the winners as was Pete Holland (100x15) for Musketeers.
Steve Ebsworth (100x12) caught the eye as Indian Inn overcame Fawn A 9-2, the same winning scoreline that was also achieved by Porters Pretenders when hosting Brewery Tap.
Good performances from Dave Matthews (100x12) and Tex Pearce (100x12) laid the foundations for Maritime Marauders to prevail 10-1 at Compton while Kings Arms also won on the road and defeated Torpoint Cons 7-4.
Maritime Misfits secured all but one of the 11 points that were on offer against Duchy of Cornwall and had Keelan Kay (28.90) emerging a 3-0 winner in 19, 19 and 14.
Danny Allen was also prominent when achieving a 15-dart leg in a 3-1 singles success while the one point that eluded them was won by Jodie Hawton who took a leg in 16 on her way to a 3-0 defeat of Rob May.
Fawn B defeated Falstaff 7-4 and recorded the week’s top checkout when Fred Goldsmith, in winning 3-0, finished a 15-dart leg with a kill of 158.
Team mate Robbie Newland also showed his finishing prowess when he too hit a 15-darter in a 3-0 singles victory, checking out at the first time of asking from 130.
