Octagon's progress halted by runaway table toppers

OCTAGON Social Club had their progress halted in the Porters Function Room 501 League when they went down 9-2 to runaway leaders Patriots and now drop down into fourth place.

In an excellent fixture that produced 107 throws of a ton or more, eight maximums were recorded, two each for Steve Packer and John Mann.

Mann partnered Robbie Bisgrove to a 2-1 601 doubles victory when they took the third leg in 14 before Bisgrove (100x16) went on to a 3-1 singles victory, aided by a leg in 15.

Also prominent was Antony Hayman (33.40) (above) who achieved the week’s top average when winning his singles in 17, 14, and 14.

Maritime Misfits have moved up into third spot following their 7-4 victory away at Falstaff in a match that saw six throws of 180 recorded.

Falstaff’s Lewis Dare top scored with 16 throws of a ton or more which included two maximums and there was also a brace for Paul Palmer of Misfits.

Maritime Marauders put 57 ton plus throws on the board on their way to defeating Torpoint Cons 9-2, led by Dave Matthews (100x12) and Mike Pearce (100x11) while consistent throwing from Mark Shears (100x12) and Scott Wapshott (100x12) laid the foundations for a 10-1 Porters Pretenders victory away at Fawn A.

Lee Hellings (100x13) caught the eye in Fawn B’s 11-0 drubbing of Waterloo and took out a 15-dart leg before going on to a 3-0 singles victory.

Maritime Musketeers won 7-4 away at City Social but the host’s only two singles winners took the plaudits.

Maria O’Brien recorded 17 throws of a ton or more, and the feat was repeated by Glyn Wells whose 17-ton haul included three maximums.

Plympton Cons gained maximum points from their visit to Duchy of Cornwall and had John Donald emerging a 3-0 winner, aided by a 14-dart leg.

Brookside secured all but one of the 11 points that were on offer away at Brewery Tap and had Scott Lawrey (30.06) emerging a 3-0 winner in 16, 16 and 18.

Kelvin Rowe also gave a good account of himself and took out a 15-darter before winning by the odd leg in five.

Kings Arms came from 4-2 down to edge out Indian Inn 6-5 when taking four of the six singles but the visitors had Steve Ebsworth claiming the week’s top outshot when he finished at the first time of asking from 130.

Also, on target with notable checkouts were: Phil Hoyle (125), Fred Goldsmith (122), Mark Shears (122), Andy Malinowski (114/106), Dave Collins (113), Robbie Bisgrove (112), Kenny McCullom (110), Tex Pearce (109), Gary Phillips (104).
