Wells and Burns achieve season's top game in 27 darts

ANOTHER outstanding game was achieved in the Plymouth and District Friday League when Glyn Wells and Kieran Burns set a new mark for the season’s best, when they won their doubles game in 27 darts (37.07).

The feat came in City Social’s 12-1 victory over Railway Inn and of the nine visits to the oche, eight of them produced three-figure scores.

Wells (32.07) and Burns (43.33) threw 140-100-100-140-100-140-41-140 before Wells checked out in three from 100.

Fifteen-year-old Jordan Grimshaw also caught the eye in Social’s victory when he won his singles with a 102 checkout.

League leaders Kings Tamerton CC defeated The Fawn 13-0 and hit five maximum scores, two of which were recorded by Simon Godfrey.

Royal Naval Arms A consolidated second spot with a 12-1 defeat of Queens Dock, inspired by Andy Bates (31.28) who hit two maximums and clinched his singles in 32.

Mark Hatherley (27.05) son his singles in 37 and top scored with 15 throws of a ton or more, only to see his Indian Inn B side edged out 7-6.

Opponents The Tradesman, came from behind and won the last two singles through Mike O’Brien (100x12) and Lee O’Riley to win 7-6.

Harry Harrison took out a finish of 106 in Porters 10-3 success away at City Social C while Antony Hayman (28.60) won in 35 as Brewery Tap A won by the narrowest of margins when hosting Weston Mill Oak Villa.

Another close encounter was witnessed at Dinky Diner A when the hosts won the last thee singles to prevail 7-6 over Jolly Miller while Waterloo Inn and Bull and Bush, both won 10-3 against City Social B and Brewery Tap B respectively.

Dinky Diner B returned from The Windmill with an 8-5 victory, the same winning scoreline that was also achieved by Pennycross SC at Octagon.

Dave Moody impressed for the winners and was their leading marksman with 12 throws of a ton or more.

Steam Packet move up into third place on the back of a 13-0 rout against Royal Naval Arms B. buoyed by a 33-darter from George Beckett (30.33) and a good singles victory from Phil Taylor, which he clinched with a checkout of 108.
