Three teams now competing at top of Monday Premier

AFTER nine weeks of competition in the Monday Premier League, no fewer than three teams are sharing the lead on 80 points, four points clear of the chasing pack.

Previous table-toppers Steam Packet B were pushed the full distance by Indian Inn A for whom Andrew Nation hit two maximums, but with the score-line evenly poised at 5-5, Quinton Taylor won in three straight legs to preserve Packet’s unbeaten record.

Brookside A are now part of the leading trio following a 10-1 victory at Steam Packet A, and they had Gary Phillips on target with two 180s.

Maritime also boast a share of the lead following a 9-2 success away at Octagon B in a fixture that saw 106 ton plus scores recorded.

Fifteen-year-old Jordan Grimshaw continues to impress and was undoubtedly the man of the match, despite his City Social side being edged out 6-5 by Ford Hotel.

The teenager (left) won all three of his disciplines and achieved checkouts of 114 and the week’s best of 148.

Two maximums from Antony Hayman was the highlight of Brewery Tap’s 9-2 victory over Bluebird B while Cherry Tree won 8-3 at Porters B.

Lewis Dare top scored with 12 ton plus throws as Porters A secured all but one of the 11 points that were on offer at Brookside B while Bluebird A defeated Indian Inn 7-4.

The Tradesman edged out Firkin Scholar 6-5, the highlight being a 15-darter from Gary Whittles (100x12) in a 3-0 singles success while Octagon A made a good recovery away at Prince Maurice A and came from 5-2 down to win 6-5.

Notable checkouts were recorded by: Teresa Brookshaw (122), Lewis Dare (120), Keith Whitley (118), Steve Daley (112), Ryan Ring (112).
