Marauders are new leaders as high standards continue

HIGH standards were attained once again in the Porters Function Room 501 Top 20 League when eight of the 10 fixtures produced no fewer than 32 maximum scores.

Maritime Marauders are now the new leaders after taking all available points away at Cherry Tree with only one leg dropped in the singles.

They laid the gauntlet down in the first discipline when Dave Matthews, Tex Pearce and Mike Pearce were successful in 26 for a 30.81 average and they also achieved the week’s highest finish when Dan Puleston (pictured below) obliged when requiring 156.

Porters Patriots defeated Brewery Tap 7-4 in a match that saw 114 ton plus throws recorded which included seven 180s are and Patriots drop down into second spot, just one point off the pace.

John Mann (100x14) won 3-1 in 19, 16 and 16 and was well supported by Antony Hayman who was also a 3-1 winner in 15, 19 and 14.

Kieran Burns (100x15) caught the eye for Brewery Tap won 3-2 winner with his best legs being won in 18 and 17.

Mark Shears top scored with 12 throws of a ton or more which included two 180s but finished up on the wrong end of a 7-4 scoreline when Porters Pretenders lost away at Maritime Musketeers.

Lewis Dare took his singles in three straight legs which included a win in 14, inspiring Falstaff to a 7-4 success against Victory B while Kings Arms won 9-2 away at The Office and had Dave Collins and Warren Gordon winning their 601 doubles 2-1, aided by a leg in 18.

Victory A secured maximum points when hosting Fawn A and won all six singles with the loss of just a single point.

The third placed side received good service from Scott Lawrey (27.33) who won 3-0 in 16, 18 and 21 and also Kelvin Rowe (26.37) whose legs were won in 16, 19 and 22 while Darren Collis (100x14) was also prominent.

Adam Searle and James Duke who won their doubles in two straight legs, aided by a 16-darter was the highlight of Compton’s 8-3 win over Maritime Nutters but there was a win for Maritime Governors, who defeated Duchy of Cornwall 10-1.

Jason Pinkerton emerged a 3-2 winner taking good legs in 13 and 14 while in the best encounter of the evening Dan Scott (180x2) defeated Jordan Searle (180x2) 3-2.

Octagon took maximum points from their visit to Indian Inn and as early as the second treble, Dave Pethick, Paul Tackle and Tony Lamerton were successful in 26 for a 30.81 average.
