Eight wins in double figures as standards remain high

THERE were some big wins this week in the Porters Function Room 501 Top 20 League, with no fewer than eight of the 10 fixtures being won in double figures, but unbeaten leaders Porters Patriots were not amongst them.

But they did put in a good shift away at Victory Inn A to win 8-3 and produced some excellent performances in the individual phases.

The fixture harvested 105 scores of a ton or more which included seven maximums and John Mann emerged as leading marksman with 17.

Mann (29.47) emerged a 3-0 winner in 17, 16 and 18, Andy Bates (27.83) took three on the bounce in 19, 18 and 17 and Antony Hayman (29.47) won 3-1 in 16, 17 and 17.

Alex Turner also caught the eye when hitting two 15-darters in a 3-1 success.

Best for the hosts was Scott Lawrey who won 3-0 aided by a leg in 13.

Another outstanding performance came from Maritime Marauders who, in beating The Office 10-1, put 53 ton plus scores on the board, including 12 from Mike Pearce (pictured) which included nine 140s.

Pearce won his singles 3-1 in 19, 15 and 15 and was well supported by Dave Matthews (28.90) who was a 3-0 winner in 20, 20 and 12.

Porters Pretenders and The Falstaff both secured maximum points against Indian Inn B and Indian Inn A respectively while Brewery Tap put in a good showing when restricting Victory Inn B to just a solitary point.

Maria O’Brien (26.84) was a 3-0 winner in 20, 19 and 17 and Glynn Wells (31.31) was victorious in 14, 17 and 17 while Jordan Grimshaw was on target with a brace of 180s.

Fawn B won the bragging rights against their stablemates Fawn A and in winning 10-1, amassed 51 scores of a ton or more inspired by Fred Goldsmith (100x13) and Lee Hellings (100x13).

Maritime Governors edged out Octagon by the narrowest of margins in a competitive fixture that produced five maximums, two of which were recorded by Dan Scott who also emerged a 3-0 singles winner, aided by two legs in 17.

Maritime Musketeers and Cherry Tree were both 10-1 winners against Compton Social Club and Maritime Nutters, the same winning scoreline that was also achieved by Kings Arms away at The Melbourne.

The Oreston side had further success when they had Dave Algar throwing the week’s top checkout with a mark of 152.
