Porters now contenders for Monday Premier Lge title

PORTERS A have played themselves into contention for the Monday Premier League title after they won 11-0 against Indian Inn B and the two frontrunners, Victory A and Steam Packet B, both lost.

Porters had John Mann top scoring with 14 ton plus scores which included checkouts of 102 and 100 while team mate Kev Lofthouse (26.84) emerged a 3-0 winner in 22, 16 and 18.

The Barbican side are 10 points off the pace in third but do have a game in hand on the front two.

Victory Inn A are top with a two-point lead but suffered a 6-5 defeat away at Brewery Tap, despite a good performance from Gary Phillips whose 12-ton haul included outshots of 107, 110 and 120.

Second placed Steam Packet B were defeated 7-4 away at Maritime but Packet’s Quinton Taylor caught the eye when emerging a 3-0 singles winner with his best leg being claimed in 13.

Victory B edged out Octagon A 6-5 and had Kieran Harris (3-1) and Phil Hoskin (3-0) both hitting 15 darters while for the visitors, Lee Hellings (32.67) (pictured) emerged a 3-0 winner in 15, 15 and 16.

Plympton Cons plundered all 11 points from City Social and Porters B won 8-3 away at Steam Packet A while Mark Henley became the sixth player this season to hit the highest possible finish of 170.

His feat came in Bluebird A’s 7-4 defeat away at Indian Inn A for whom Mike Whatley top scored with 13 throws of a ton or more.

Prince Maurice A won 9-2 away at Firkin Scholar but catching the eye was 13-year-old Frankie Stout who hit two maximums and gave a good account of himself in the singles before being edged out 2-3 by Lee Roberts.

Octagon B defeated Ford Hotel 7-4 while The Tradesman, with top scorers Paul Tackle (100x13) and Andy Waters (100x14), secured all but one of the 11 points on their visit to Hyde Park SC.

Bluebird B also won 10-1 away at Hyde Park and had good service from Rich Coombs who hit two maximums and in winning his singles 3-1, took legs in 15 and 16.

Notable ton plus checkouts were recorded by: Paul Bowen (126), Dave Meyrick (126), Phil Hoskin (120), Eddy Bull (116), Paul Palmer (106), Shane Victor (104), Steve Duke (100), Danny Bull (100).
