Title race still wide open as contenders both win big

THE two title contenders in the Plymouth City Super League both won by a 10-1 margin, so Porters maintain their four-point advantage over Maritime A with five weeks of competition remaining.

 

Porters defeated Compton Social Club and had John Mann winning 3-0, aided by two 15-darters, one of which he finished with the week’s highest checkout of 129.

 

Maritime A earned their points away at Cherry Tree and had Neil White (100x15) top scoring while emerging a 3-2 winner in 18, 19, 22.

 

James Preen was also prominent and won 3-0 in 19, 20, 20 (25.47).

 

 Maritime B defeated St Levan Inn 9-2, inspired by a very good performance from Mark Gilbery (pictured).

 

The marksman won 3-0 in 14, 16, 19, posting a 30.67 average and was also on target with two maximums.

 

Sarah Brown caught the eye for the visitors when top scoring with 10 throws of a ton or more which included three 140s and a maximum.

 

Glenn Halford (100x13) was consistent throughout leading The Bluebird to an 8-3 win against Kings Arms B while Victoria defeated The Fawn 7-4 and The Tradesman edged out The Albemarle 6-5.

 

Octagon Social Club did well to win by the narrowest of margins away at The Staddy.

 

Fred Goldsmith aided by a leg in 15 won 3-1 to tie the match at 4-4 and despite The Staddy winning the next, two on the bounce from Dave Pethick and Alfie Ford won the match for Octagon

 

Steve Brocklesby hit two maximums as Plympton Cons A triumphed 8-3 away at Maritime C while Plympton Cons B came from 5-1 down to edge out Kings Arms A 6-5.

 

The tension went right to the final point when at 5-5 and 2-2 Andy Bond defeated Paul Hendy 3-2.

 

Ker St Social Club defeated The Clifton 9-2 and had Paul Lamerton notching six 140s in a 10-ton haul.

 

Clifton’s Andy Pengelly was on target with three maximums, two coming in a 3-2 individual success.

 

Notable outshots were achieved by: Tony Teal (110), Lee Doncaster (110), Paul Hendy (109), Rob Oak (106), Glenn Halford (102), Paul Walsh (100).
