Staddy suffer heavy defeat to rampant Brewery Tap

August 13, 2019

THE Staddy suffered one of their heaviest defeats ever in the Plymouth City Super League when they went down 9-2 to a rampant Brewery Tap, who put 68 scores of a ton or more on the board in a fixture that produced nine maximums.

Andy Bates hit three 180s and Malcolm Johns won 3-1, aided by an 11-dart leg but the best encounter of the night saw Staddy’s Marc Cresswell take legs in 16 and 20, have darts to win the decisive leg in 11, only to lose 3-2 to John Mann (pictured) (100x16) in 13, 15 and 16.

That victory puts the Stonehouse hostelry two points clear at the top of the table from Plympton Cons A who won 9-2 away at Ker St B with Andy Malinowski winning 3-1, with his best leg coming in 15.

Ker St’s Paddy Archibald hit a checkout of 101, which came in a shock 3-0 defeat of the previous week’s top player, Dave Collins.

Bluebird A had Glenn Halford (100x13) top scoring as they came from behind to win the last four singles, to prevail 7-4 when hosting Maritime A.

Hyde Park Social Club were defeated 7-4 by visitors Victoria, the same winning scoreline that was also achieved by The Clifton away at Cherry Tree.

The Greenbank side were further boosted when Wayne Town’s outshot of 121 proved to be the best of the week.

Kings Tamerton CC opened their account with an 8-3 victory away at St Levan Inn while Victoria and Victory Inn A both won 7-4 against Hyde Park and The Fawn respectively.

Kings B led Victory Inn B 6-1, which included a solid singles success for Dave Johns (100x14), but had to settle for a win by the narrowest of margins after Victory B rallied well to win the last four points.

Frankie Stout made a kill of 115 in a 3-0 singles victory, which was the highlight of Maritime B’s 7-4 success against Bluebird Bandits while Matt Thompson inspired Steam Packet to an 8-3 success against Kings Arms A.

Thompson not only top scored with 14 throws of a ton or more but also hit a 14-darter in a 3-2 singles victory.

Steve Hiscox returned to the oche from a long lay-off and showed he had lost none of his prowess.

Inspiring Plympton Cons B into third place with a 9-2 victory over Ker St A, he top scored with 16 throws of a ton or more, 11 of which came in a 3-1 singles success.
