Ally Pally for Fallon after winning PDC Ladies' crown

FALLON Sherrock has won a darts title every year for the last nine years and yesterday, at the Robin Park Tennis Centre, Wigan, the 25-year-old from Milton Keynes added the PDC Women’s World Championship of Great Britain and Ireland to her glittering array of titles.

In her opening match she went 2-0 up against Kirsty Chubb before her first maximum of the day helped her to take the next in 18.

Fallon won the fourth in 15 when checking out from 114 and followed it with a kill of 100 to win it in 17 before clinching the sixth and decisive leg in 14 following four ton plus scores on the bounce.

Her next opponent was England team-mate Lorraine Winstanley, but any friendship was put to one side as Fallon went 3-0 up in 16, 14 and 20.

The next leg was a drawn-out affair which went to Winstanley but Sherrock was back in the groove to take the next in 17, followed by a 15-darter which she won with an outshot of 103.

Lorraine responded by taking the next in 13, followed by a win in 20, but Sherrock, after hitting her third maximum of the match, progressed into the last eight with a win in 14.

Lisa Brosnan stood between Fallon and a place in the semi-finals but offered little resistance as she was blown away 6-0.

Sherrock went 2-0 up aided by a 14-darter before checkouts of 114 and 130 enabled her to take legs three and four in 15 and 12 respectively.

She then took the next in 18 and an outshot of 100 for a 15-darter finished the job in hand, posting her best average of the day of 99.10.

Waiting in the other half of the draw was last year’s winner Lisa Ashton but the four-times world champion offered little resistance in the early exchanges as Fallon went 4-0 in front with a 16-darter and no fewer than three in 13.

The next two were shared before Ashton found her form and took three on the bounce in 18, 14 and 20.

She had a chance to make it 5-5 when going to the oche needing 48, but bust her throw and Fallon took full advantage to check out in 19 and progress to the final.

Natalie Gilbert may have been a surprise finalist to some, but she got there on merit boasting two 6-0 victories, including a whitewash of Denise Cassidy in the other semi-final.

But on form she was never going to hold any fears for Fallon, despite Gilbert making it 1-1 when winning the second in 15, aided by a maximum.

Sherrock moved 4-1 in front when taking the next three in 18, 19 and 17 before Gilbert offered some resistance by taking leg six.

Fallon hit a score of 156 to leave 36 in leg seven, only for Gilbert to win it in 16, but that was the last leg she won as Sherrock took the next two in 20 and 19 for a 6-3 victory.

She finished the day with the best average of 85.61, well in front of second placed Lisa Ashton (79.57) having hit six maximums along the way.

She will now take her place amidst the best players in the world when she competes in the 2020 William Hill World Darts Championships at The Alexandra Palace, London, from December 13 to January 1.

The only other lady darts player competing will be the current BDO World Champion Mikuru Suzuki who won the overseas event.

Following the draw which was made live on Sky Sports last night Fallon was paired against Ted Evetts with Mikuru having to play James Richardson.
