Bates sets new mark for top finish of season with 170

THE Patriots boosted their unassailable lead to 39 points in the Porters Function Room 501 Top 20 League with a 10-1 win against Indian Inn, but the highlight of the match was a finish of 170 from Andy Bates (pictured) which set a new mark for the season’s top checkout.

King Billy were the only other team to win in double figures when they restricted Victory Inn B to a single point.

Andrew Nation was their leading marksman with 15 ton plus scores while Andy Coventry, for the hosts, was on target with a brace of 180s.

An excellent fixture was played out at the Maritime, which resulted in Victory Inn A defeating the Governors 7-4, with no fewer than 139 ton plus throws being put up on the scoreboard.

Kelvin Rowe for the visitors emerged a 3-2 winner in 16, 13, 23 against Jason Pinkerton (16, 15) with Tony Tasker (100x17) as their leading marksman who was well supported by Neil White (100x15) and Scott Lawrey (100x15).

Top scorers for the hosts were Jason Pinkerton (100x15), Daniel Sheikh (100x14) and Scott Hutchinson (100x13).

Octagon Social Club returned from The Falstaff with a 9-2 victory, the same winning scoreline that was also achieved by Kings Arms away at Cherry Tree with Warren Gordon (25.05) emerging a 3-0 winner in 23, 18 and 19.

Maritime Misfits came from behind to edge out Fawn B 6-5 in a match that produced six maximums, a brace each for Phil Hoyle and Fred Goldsmith.

Fawn B looked well in control when leading 5-3 but victories from Richard Wheatley, Frankie Stout and Jordan Searle sealed an unexpected win.

In the remaining two matches Maritime Musketeers won 7-4 at Fawn A and The Clifton triumphed 8-3 over Maritime Nutters.
