Kings Are In The Shadow Of The Glenn
Glenn Halford's eighteen three figure score haul led Bluebird A to a 7-4 Plymouth City Super League Division A win over Kings Arms B, in what turned out to be a high scoring encounter.
Halford's tally was topped up by one of the three maximums plundered between both sides as Halford's teammate Glenn Austin also fired a three treble visit to round his ton total up to eleven.
Paul Carpenter was the home side's solitary 180 hitter whilst stablemate Simon Kelly fired himself fifteen ton plusses overall.
Kelly got the better of Halford in the singles by a 3-1 score line that saw Kelly take legs in 16 and 17 darts to claim a notable scalp.
Kelly's teammate Dave Johns was also in good scoring form with ten tons of his own, which provided the firepower to keep the score line respectable.
Last out of the gate in the singles was James Stoodley, whose highlights came in the form of a 16 darter and a 113 checkout to besiege his opponent in a 3-0 individual win.
Lee Hellings heard scores of a ton or more called no fewer than seventeen times as his empathic scoring led Octagon back to the top of the standings in a 10-1 win over Colebrook.
Hellings was well supported by teammate Fred Goldsmith who put thirteen three figure scores onto the board whilst Alfie Ford added ten of his own.
Ford and Hellings joined teammates John Mann and Dave Matthews in hitting one each of the quartet of maximums overall whilst Hellings modest 80 checkout was the highest finish achieved.
Mann and Matthews (27.95) put away their 2-0 601 doubles win in just 42 darts whilst Hellings and Ford walked away from their 2-1 win over the same format with a more than respectable 25.93 single dart average.
Ford followed up with a crucial 17 darter in his 3-2 individual win whilst the Plympton outfit's only win came from Dave Hollow who added ten tons for his side overall.
Despite not adding a point to the match result, Hollow's teammate Nathan Langdon was also prominent in the scoring phase with ten ton plusses of his own.
King Billy and Legends Lounge went into their clash as the top two in the division, and the matchup did not disappoint as Scott Wapshott's fifteen ton plusses gave the St Budeaux side the platform to take an 8-3 win.
Antony Hayman was the defeated team's highest scorer with fourteen three figure visits whilst 180s were smashed in no fewer than five times.
A Scott Cook brace was added to by teammates Wapshott and Paul Gavican whilst Paul Goundry put up his Devonport team's solitary effort in a 3-0 individual success that also contained a 17 darter.
Wapshott was a 3-1 winner in the individuals with the help of a leg in 16 whilst Hayman (26.84) added a 16 darter of his own to a leg in 18 during his 3-0 triumph.
Cook was another 3-0 winner in the match as his brace of 18 darters proved decisive in another triumph without reply.
Gavican's 3-1 victory saw both his maximum and the highest checkout of the match as he nailed a three dart combination outshot of 111.
James Hughes added thirteen three figure scores, but that wasn't enough to stop Cherry Tree A from sliding to a 6-5 defeat at home to Fawn A.
The best finish of the week came in the form of a 160 checkout from the arm of Hughes' teammate Nick Miller, which bettered a 92 from Hughes earlier on in the contest.
In a topsy-turvy affair that saw the lead change hands no fewer than five times, Dave Roberts held his nerve to run out a 3-0 winner last on with the scores tied at 5-5.
Eleven tons from Jon Parsons provided the ammunition for Bluebird B who claimed an 8-3 success over Victory who themselves had three main highlights despite the loss.
Kevin Marshall and Lee O'Mahony both added maximums to Phil Hoskin's 76 checkout, which was the best fired by either team.
Both teams had ten ton hitters in a 9-2 success for Steampacket in their visit to Indian with Marc Webber getting his name up in lights for the visitors.
Webber's teammate George Beckett (27.32) added the only maximum of the evening in a doubles outing before returning in the individuals to claim a 3-0 success with the help of a best leg in 14 darts and a 90 finish.
Eddie Bull was the Stoke village side's sharpshooter with a dectet of ton plusses, but his heroics unfortunately could not put a dent into the overall score line.
In Division B, Tex Pearce top scored for St Levans with thirteen tons as Pearce's away side ran out 8-3 winners in their visit to Duchy A.
Pearce joined his wife, Anna Pearce, in hearing 180 called after throwing whilst Jack Heath's maximum was the only moment of magic for the defeated Stonehouse side.
Clifton continue to just about cling onto the coat tails of the leaders after a 9-2 success over Ker St that contained a twelve ton haul from Wayne Town.
Town's teammate Cory Jonas also found tons in ten separate visits to the board whilst Ian Heggie was prominent for the defeated visitors with ten of his own.
Heggie also plundered the top checkout of the match with a 97 in a 3-2 defeat to Town whilst Kevin Seal's 3-1 success contained a leg in 16 darts.
Heggie's finish was the only effort to better an 87 from Seal's teammate Dan Jewell in a win that leaves the Greenbank side comfortably second with eight to make up on leaders Cornwall Gate.
Two maximums added to Simon Stevenson's twelve ton total in a 9-2 win for the leaders over Kings Tamerton, who themselves had Paul Freeman's 118 checkout to thank for one of the two points they won.
That Freeman effort meant teammate Chris Hanwell's 92 single visit kill in a 3-0 individual success had to settle for second best whilst Stevenson was also a winner without reply thanks in part to legs in 17 and 18 darts.
Mike Sant fired ten tons but still found himself on the wrong end of a 6-5 defeat as his Kings Arms A were downed by Fawn B.
The tail end of that Sant total came in a 3-1 individual success that saw Sant hear game shot called after throwing just 13 darts in one of the legs.
The Greenbank team's only notable moment in the triumph saw John Brady check a three dart combination out shot of 116 for the best checkout of all thirty-one plundered in the match.
Victoria were 10-1 winners over Duchy B with Aaron Wright's ten tons providing the catalyst for the biggest winning margin of the week in the division.
Wright added a 15 darter and a 74 checkout in his 3-1 individual win to a maximum, which was one of two for the Plymstock side as Mick Bingham also struck.
A 6-5 win for Cherry Tree B over Hyde Park saw three maximums for the victors as Kev Doel's brace was added to once by teammate Tony Reid.
A 3-0 win for Ben Welsh that was helped along by a 17 darter; a win that contributed to making the score line respectable as the Peverell outfit recovered from 2-0, 4-1 and 6-3 down.
