Octagon's Title Bid In Top Gear

John Mann top scored with thirteen tons as the Plymouth City Super League leaders Octagon begin to pull away from their rivals in the title race thanks to a 10-1 success over Victory C.

Octagon's modus operandi is to smother the opposition from the first 'game on' and they did exactly that with a 39 dart first trebles (25.67) won by Mann, Dave Matthews and Alfie Ford; Mann with a 100 checkout.

There was more of the same one way traffic in the first doubles match as Mann and Matthews teamed for a 35 dart 1001 leg which yielded a 28.60 single dart average.

The onslaught continued into the singles phase with Neil White checking a leg in 16 darts during his 3-0 before Mann (26.84) won well with a 16 darter of his own in another 3-0 success.

Harry Bull and Scott Hutchinson showed the future of Plymouth darts is in more than capable hands after the pair put on quite a show during Raffles 8-3 win over Victory B.

Hutchinson and Bull shared no fewer than twenty-six three figure scores during the contest equally; both players netting a joint week high thirteen each.

Hutchinson's leg in 17 was crucial in getting the better of Bull 3-2 in a fabulous display of high scoring between the two.

Danny and Eddie Bull shared the game's three maximums between them, Danny with the lion's share, whilst James Ewing (26.84) continued his rich vein of form with a leg in 14 darts during a 3-0 singles success.

The Colebrook's 7-4 win away to Victoria was dominated by the performance of Dave Hollow who reached twelve tons for his evening's work.

Hollows' teammate Steve Hiscox checked a modest 78 finish for the highest of the match whilst Mick Bingham put up some resistance for the home side with ten tons of his own.

Second and third placed King Billy and Victory A put on quite a show with Scott Cook the joint highest scoring player as he reached twelve individual tons in the 6-5 win for the 'Billy Boyz'.

Cook joined teammate Mark Shears in hitting a 180; that effort being one of the twelve hit by Shears in the matchup overall.

A 14 dart leg from Paul Goundry saw him over the line in his 3-2 win over Cook whilst Shears finished one leg in just 13 darts in a 3-2 defeat to Antony Hayman.

Both Hayman and teammate Lee Doncaster reached ten tons for the evening, which all hinged on one game of singles between Paul Palmer and Matt Chegwin.

It was Palmer who got over the line with a 93 checkout aiding him to a 3-1 success; a finish that saw him share the high checkout honours for the match with teammate Goundry who had earlier replicated the feat.

Jamie Roberts eleven ton plusses saw his Bluebird B team to a 6-5 win over Fawn A in a match that had Nigel Bassett finishing from 76 in a single visit.

With the scores locked at 5-5, Callum Strickson held his nerve to give the Compton team the bragging rights with an accomplished 3-0 success.

The talented Nick Miller produced eleven three figure scores in Cherry Tree's 8-3 victory over Hyde Park, for whom Lee Dennis checked 87 and Ben Welsh hit the game's only 180.

A 10-1 win for Bluebird A in their visit to Duchy Of Cornwall was accented by a ten ton haul for Glenn Halford, Glenn Austin's 180, and a 98 checkout for Tony Teal.

Four 180s were shared between the two teams in Steampacket's 8-3 success over Ker St with Kayleigh Adams bagging herself a brace in her 3-2 individual success.

Adams' teammate George Beckett (25.91) had a quiet night on the scoring front but still managed a leg in 15 darts, which was the only one to better Mike Connell's 17 darter in his 3-2 singles defeat.

The man who got the better of the rejuvenated Connell, Ralph Lancaster, needed a maximum to do so whilst the biggest checkout of the contest went to Neal Hotchkiss' 100 single visit finish.

Warren Gordon show glimpses of his best during Saltram's 9-2 win over Half Moon with Gordon checking 104 in a single visit.

Gordon also nailed a 15 darter and a maximum during the match with teammate John Smith adding a second 180 for the victorious home team.

Martyn Down and Roger Backway shared the high checkout of 83 in Kings Arms B's 7-4 loss to Clifton in a match that also saw Roger Backway checkout a leg in 15 darts during a 3-1 singles success.

Fawn B continued their purple patch with a 6-5 win over Kings Arms A that featured a 16 dart leg for Mark Sargeant in a 3-2 defeat to Pete Down.
